Chelsea goalkeeping coach Ilario has handed in his resignation at the Blues. After Thomas Tuchel approached him to join the England coaching football staff.

Ilario is set to join an England coaching staff that also includes assistant Anthony Barry and head of performance James Melbourne. Who also left Chelsea last month amid Tuchel’s attack on his former club.

Ilario made 39 appearances for Chelsea between 2006 and 2014. The one-time Portugal international joined the coaching staff after retiring. Serving under a succession of managers, including Tuchel.

Chelsea already have a capable goalkeeping coach in Michele De Bernardin, who joined from Leicester with Enzo Maresca. While Willy Caballero remains his assistant and Ben Roberts takes up the role of head of goalkeeping.

The German manager has been appointed as Gareth Southgate’s permanent successor. Signing an 18-month contract that will keep him in charge of England until the 2026 World Cup.

The report claims Hilario had hoped to job-share between Chelsea and England, but the Blues were not willing to accomodate the request.
