Spurs have appealed Rodrigo Bentancur’s seven-match domestic ban for racially abusing team-mate Son Heung-min. With the FA football saying the punishment was too harsh.
Spurs have admitted their guilt following a decision by the independent regulatory commission. Which has fined the player £100,000 and ordered him to attend a face-to-face training programme.UFABET
It comes after he was charged by the Football Association in September over comments made during a TV appearance in his home country in June.
Bentancur, who denies the charges has been banned from domestic games until December 26.
He will miss the Premier League games against Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea, as well as Spurs’ Carabao Cup quarter-final against Man United. But is available to play in the Europa League.
The Uruguayan midfielder has been suspended from domestic competitions pending an appeal.
Spurs said: “We can confirm that the club has appealed to the FA over the length of Rodrigo Bentancur’s suspension. Which was handed down earlier this week.”
“While we accept the wrongful conviction of Rodrigo by the independent regulatory body. We believe the subsequent sanction is excessive,”
Bentancur had denied the charge, but an independent regulatory commission found it to be proven. And the FA imposed the suspension and a 100,000 pounds ($126,930) fine last month on the 27-year-old.
